Local Students Head Back to School with New Supplies
To kick off the new school year, Miller-Valentine Group Associates in both the Dayton and Cincinnati offices came together recently to pack a total of 250 school bags for underprivileged elementary school children. This is the 2nd year that Miller-Valentine Group co-sponsored this community service event with Caring Partners International (CPI). Caring Partners is a non-profit organization that not only sends medical supplies and volunteer care teams on medical mission trips around the world. They also successfully created and launched a Tri-State care program focused on southwest Ohio which provides healthcare supplies and personal hygiene products to the neediest in those communities. CPI works to equip local organizations (churches, drop-in centers, halfway houses, food banks) in meeting community needs.
Several Miller-Valentine Group Vendors joined the effort and provided supplies to fill the bags:
- Staples (Miller-Valentine office supply vendor) donated school supplies (crayons, highlighters, colored pencils, pencils, erasers, washable markers, pencil sharpeners)
- Caring Partners donated personal care items (shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, ChapStick, Flintstone chewable vitamins)
- Metlife (Miller-Valentine dental insurance provider) supplied 250 toothbrushes and dental floss
- Murphy’s Supply (Miller-Valentine Commercial Property Management Vendor) supplied hand sanitizer
- Walmart donated a $100 gift card which was used to purchase additional school supplies
- Miller-Valentine Group purchased the drawstring bags and the remainder of the school supplies to fill the 250 bags
Caring Partners distributed the care bags to the following groups:
- Cincinnati, Ohio area Elementary schools in Avondale and Walnut Hills
- Cincinnati, Ohio area Norwood and St. Bernard School Districts
- Food Pantry serving kids in the City of Hamilton, Ohio area
- Trenton, Ohio area Edgewood Middle School
- Hamilton, Ohio area daycare serving Forest Park kids in need
- Northmont/Englewood area of Dayton, Ohio through the Northmont FISH program
In addition to care bags, a raffle was held with the proceeds, $308 donated to CPI to help cover their cost of the personal care items. Raffle items included:
- 4 Bengals donated by Associated Bank
- 4 Dayton Dragons tickets & parking pass donated by Miller-Valentine Group
- 4 FC Cincinnati tickets & parking pass donated by Associated Bank
- Five $10 Starbucks Gift Cards donated by Miller-Valentine Group
This effort was coordinated by the Miller-Valentine Group Helping Hands committee, a team of Associates who identify and provide opportunities for Miller-Valentine Associates to engage in community service.
