Build A Shed Competition Provides Students a First-Hand Look at Construction

Miller-Valentine Construction is excited to participate in the ABC of the Carolinas and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Build A Shed Competition. The Build A Shed Competition is a one-day competition that brings together 7 local Charleston high schools with 7 local general contractors to construct an 8’ x 11’ shed. All teams will use the same blueprint and will be mentored by construction industry professionals in safety, quality, planning, scheduling, and communication. At the completion of the competition, students will receive an OSHA 10 Certification and the sheds will be auctioned off with the funds being used to support future Build A Shed programs.

This competition provides an opportunity for students to work directly with construction professionals to learn firsthand about the construction industry.  With a nationwide shortage of talent in construction, programs like Build a Shed expose students to the many different career paths that could be pursued after graduation.

You can support the Build A Shed competition and the combined team of R.B. Stall High School and Miller-Valentine Construction by bidding on the shed at https://bidr.co/events/shed. The auction is currently open and will remain open until the end of the competition on April 27th.
