Proud to be improving construction around the world with CURT

Miller-Valentine Group Accepted into Construction Users Roundtable (CURT)

An elite consortium of construction and engineering companies welcomed Miller-Valentine Group into its membership this fall. Miller-Valentine joined the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) as a contractor member.

Miller-Valentine was invited to join CURT as a result of its demonstrated leadership and innovation in the industry. Over the past 55 years, Miller-Valentine has earned a solid record for project safety and quality, while also being willing to adapt its process and methods to meet clients’ needs.

For example, Miller-Valentine recently combined lean principles with an integrated project delivery (IPD) model on its job sites. At a manufacturing facility, cross-disciplinary teams of ironworkers, pipefitters, and electricians all worked on a prefabricated roof structure on the ground, prior to installation. By combining two best practices and applying them in the construction field, Miller-Valentine was able to improve safety, productivity, quality control and inspections on its site.

The lean IPD approach is becoming a core part of Miller-Valentine’s construction strategy, which it hopes to advance through its CURT membership. “A key principle of IPD is having the key players at the table,” explained Greg Fox, vice president for Miller-Valentine. “CURT is the right resource to help us advance our IPD journey.

“We are extremely honored to be part of CURT and for the opportunity to promote and improve the way construction projects are executed,” Greg added. “We share a vision for continuous improvement and we’re eager to learn and share through our membership experience.”

Greg will lead Miller-Valentine’s company-wide focus on lean IPD. He joined the company as vice president of lean construction in August, bringing nearly 30 years of engineering and construction experience to the role. Prior to joining Miller-Valentine, Greg was a leader in construction management and capital purchasing for the Procter & Gamble Company for 20 years. He also worked for privately owned construction companies and has taught construction management courses at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

As a CURT member, Greg and Miller-Valentine will have access to education, resources and fellow members that can support the company’s lean IPD journey. In turn, executives from Miller-Valentine will participate on CURT committees and initiatives that help shape industry standards and expectations regarding safety, training and contractor qualifications.

CURT represents nearly $200 billion in capital and maintenance spending power and is a driving force for improvement in the construction industry. Its members create new products and services, initiate trends and advise key decision- and policymakers in the U.S. and abroad. About 80 percent of CURT members represent owner companies, such as manufacturers and Fortune 500 companies that use construction services; the balance is made up of contractors who are invited to join.
