Shifting “Process Innovation” into High Gear

Continuous improvement has always been part of Miller-Valentine’s DNA. It drives our spirit of innovation and is fundamental to delivering a consistent, world-class experience for our customers.

But as we have increased our client base, expanded our geographic footprint, and added new partnerships, we have recognized the benefit of channeling that spirit into a more structured framework. We are striving to not just embrace but to embed, continuous improvement into our culture.

Making Continuous Improvement Second Nature
Across our company, we are scrutinizing all of our underlying systems and processes for opportunities to improve. Our aim is to provide our Associates with the tools and insights to make continuous improvement second nature. Because everyone – our customers, our partners, and our Associates – benefit every time we enhance processes, reduce risk, remove waste, and deliver better outcomes.

An initiative of this scale requires a champion, which is why we named Jerry Kronenberger, a long-time Miller-Valentine Associate, to the new position of Vice President, Process Innovation, last fall.

Creating an enterprise-level advocate for continued improvement will enable Jerry to work across operational, leadership, and planning teams to identify areas of process refinement. This visibility will supercharge our efforts to foster and instill a zero-loss mentality.

For example, Jerry will help our teams identify, evaluate, implement, and measure leading practices and state-of-the-art technology. He will define opportunities to enhance cross-discipline communication and workflow. And he will lead in the development and establish standardized processes and procedures to deliver a uniform experience for all of our customers.

“This is more about refining our focus and aligning our efforts than adopting a brand-new mindset,” said Jerry. “We are positioning ourselves to not just improve internal processes, but to be more deliberate in how we evaluate new technologies and ways of doing business to ensure they are appropriate for us and, more importantly, our customers.”

Taking Full Accountability
The creation of this new role demonstrates our commitment to deliver consistent performance across all divisions and aspects of Miller-Valentine. It is in line with our pledge to take full accountability on all of our projects to reduce risk and uncertainty for our clients.

In his 20 years with Miller-Valentine, most recently as controller of construction, Jerry has worked with individual teams to identify process improvements. But now, in his new position, he can give improvement initiatives his full attention.

“We have really talented people at Miller-Valentine,” Jerry added. “I’m looking forward to empowering Associates with new tools, new methods, and even new ways of problem-solving to help them achieve even greater things for our company and for our clients.”
