Industry Veteran Mark Terhar Joins Miller Valentine Construction’s Executive Team
Miller Valentine Construction has taken its strategic growth strategy to the next level by naming industry veteran Mark Terhar as executive vice president of construction.
In this role, Mark will focus on ensuring Miller Valentine has the people, processes, and safety measures in place to support and sustain rapid growth. The company expanded from $85 million in revenue in 2016 to more than $275 million in 2021 and has set its sights on significant growth well into the future.
“Miller Valentine’s growth in the past four years is impressive, but it amplifies the need to strengthen processes to ensure we consistently and efficiently deliver projects safely, on time, and on budget. Coming from a large company, I understand what it takes to scale quickly and to sustain that growth,” said Mark.
In January of 2020, Mark decided to retire. However, it didn’t take long for him to realize he still had more to contribute to the field.
“Throughout my career, I’ve taken the most pride in the people I have mentored and coached. Now I have an opportunity to use my experience to support Miller Valentine’s growth,” he said.
That experience will include scaling and improving processes and establishing best practices and working with the company’s in-house recruiting team to attract and retain top talent.
“People are our true asset, but this environment is extremely challenging from a hiring perspective,” said Mark. “We’re exploring every avenue to expand our ranks with people who have the capabilities and drive to deliver on our promise to our clients.”
Even as he digs into process and people initiatives, Mark noted that his priority will be Safety.
“Miller Valentine has a very good safety record, and we will ensure we maintain that record across the company,” he said.
Mark brings nearly 38 years of industry experience to the position. He joined Turner Construction following graduation. Mark holds undergraduate degrees in Economics and Construction Management as well as an MBA.
According to Elizabeth Mangan, CEO, “We are incredibly excited to have Mark leading the team. His experience and approach have already had an impact and we look forward to our continued evolution.”
When he’s not at work, Mark enjoys playing golf and spending time with his first grandchild.
