Project Update: Detpak USA Manufacturing Facility Renovation Underway
Construction is currently underway on an 85,000 SF renovation project in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for Detpak USA LLC, a member of the Australia-based Detmold Group. As a leading paper and packaging manufacturer, Detpak selected Miller Valentine after researching general contractors to support the company’s expansion into the United States. Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-August, with the project expected to support the creation of more than 50 new jobs. The renovation of this facility will serve as Detpak’s first U.S. manufacturing and distribution operation, enabling the company to produce and deliver paper bags to customers across the country.
The accelerated schedule has presented unique challenges, with construction commencing the day after contract execution. Tight lead times, evolving project requirements, and the client’s efforts to achieve BRC food safety certification have required a highly collaborative approach. Miller Valentine has worked closely with the Detpak team through an open-book process, providing detailed cost transparency and helping navigate differences between construction practices in the United States and the company’s existing operations in Vietnam and India.
A key priority for the renovation project is providing power to 10 bag-making machines. Three machines have already been installed and connected, with additional equipment installation continuing as construction progresses. Detpak is targeting a pre-audit by the end of June and plans to begin full operations in August.
The facility will manufacture bags for a confidential customer and represents the first phase of Detpak’s long-term growth plans in Spartanburg.
