AES Smart Operations Center

AES US Services, LLC’s Smart Operations Center is the first of its kind in the United States—a highly interactive, collaborative, innovative space that very purposefully integrates the company’s technology with operations in a way that reflects its mission and standing in the global energy industry. What was originally planned to be a phased construction project, turned into three simultaneous projects, each with its own challenges and diverse buildouts. Located in Dayton, Ohio, this was a top-to-bottom renovation of an oddly shaped, 75,000-square-foot 1980s structure, featuring three segregated multi-story “PODs” connected by a shared main atrium space. Nothing was left untouched or unchanged. The outdated building is now clean, modern, and green. That the building and its 46-acre site have been repurposed, as opposed to demolished and rebuilt, itself reflects the AES company’s mission. Retaining this global company—one that influences the energy grid across the country and around the world—is a huge win for the region and the state of Ohio. For all team members, being selected to create such a singular structure has been an honor.

In developing this new Digital Hub, AES partnered with Miller Valentine Construction, Champlin Architects, and ThermalTech Engineering on the project.

Building features include:

• Replacement and upgrade of the existing mechanical and electrical system
• Revised floor plan
• High end audio visual features
• Modern architectural features and ceiling elements
• Floor to ceiling glass walls throughout
