Pratt Industries – Park City KS
Pratt Industries is America’s fifth-largest corrugated packaging company and the world’s largest, privately-held 100% recycled paper and packaging company. Since 2014, Miller Valentine Construction has served as a trusted guide to the company — building, expanding, and renovating facilities totaling more than 5 million square feet in eleven states (as of March 2022).
The company had a box corrugating plant in Park City, Kansas, but the facility was no longer large enough to keep pace with demand. As Pratt Industries considered its options, it relied on Miller Valentine to conduct due diligence on potential sites. As a result, the company had greater certainty in making its final site selection.
For Pratt Industries, there is no margin for delay in the schedule. Many of their projects require the installation of large equipment shipped from Germany and China. The scale of the equipment, combined with the company’s need to get production running as quickly as possible, requires that the equipment is under roof on arrival.
Schedule commitments were particularly crucial on the Park City project. Two new corrugators were being shipped from overseas. In addition, the client planned to move its operations from the existing plant to the new facility. The timing for the move was dependent on getting the new equipment up and running on time.
When a pandemic-related shortage of roofing materials threatened to delay the schedule, the project team prioritized available materials to ensure the corrugators — and the electrical equipment that serviced them — would be under roof on schedule. As a result, the client was able to fire up production on time to ensure no interruption to operations as it moved into the new facility.
