Our project team held their first Pull Planning session to review core shell framing and rough in work with our trade partners for the 120,000 SF addition to TQL’s headquarters facility.  The session was successful as the team reviewed the project schedule in order to facilitate an efficient and successful workflow for those involved.  An additional session will be held for interior fit out activities.

Pull planning is a collaborative approach to project management that involves bringing together all members of a project team to create a plan outlining the work that needs to be done, the resources required, and the timeline for completion. The goal is to identify the critical path for the project, break it down into smaller tasks, and create a plan for completing these tasks in the most efficient way possible.  Once the tasks are identified, the team then creates a visual representation of the plan, using a sticky note wall or a whiteboard, to make it easier to track progress and identify potential issues. As work is completed, the team pulls the next task from the plan and continues until the project is complete.

Pull planning creates cohesive teams by emphasizing the importance of the actual work to be done, rather than just the schedule. Traditional planning techniques often focus on the timeline and deadlines but pull planning recognizes that completing the work itself is the most important part of the project. By breaking the work down into smaller tasks and creating a visual representation of the plan, the team can track progress more effectively and ensure that the work is completed on time and to the required quality.
