It was our honor to participate in the Ohio Valley Associated Builders and Contractors’ 23rd Annual Safety Day. This year’s theme, “Complacency Kills,” served as a powerful reminder that maintaining a safe jobsite requires constant awareness, intentional action, and a commitment to never becoming complacent.
Complancency Kills
Proactive safety practices are essential to protecting our teams and worksites. These include conducting daily job hazard analyses, holding consistent toolbox talks, reinforcing proper PPE use, maintaining clear and open communication across crews, and actively identifying and correcting potential hazards before incidents occur. These deliberate efforts help ensure that every team member goes home safely every day.
Representing Miller Valentine at Safety Day were Madalynn Baker (Co-Op), Tom Rogers (Senior Superintendent), Miriam Calkins (EHS Program Manager), Nick Hitchcock (Co-Op), and Boston Socha (Co-Op). We were especially proud to include three of our co-ops, reinforcing that a strong safety culture starts early and applies to every role on the jobsite. Investing in safety education at the beginning of their careers helps develop safer, more confident leaders for the future.
At Miller Valentine, safety is supported by a dedicated and experienced team led by Perry Gerome (Safety Director) and Adam Rankle (Regional Safety Manager), who work continuously to strengthen our safety programs and jobsite practices.
STEP Award
Also, Miller Valentine Construction is proud to receive the STEP Safety Training Evaluation Process Gold Award, a nationally recognized safety management system developed by Associated Builders and Contractors. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to measuring, strengthening, and continuously improving our safety performance.
Safety is not a one-time effort. It is a mindset, a culture, and a shared responsibility we carry every day.
